Normally, I’m the youngest person in my gym classes by about a decade and a half. But now college kids are home for the summer and coming to my gym to work out with their parents. At first I thought this might be depressing because standing in a mirrored room full of women who have all birthed multiple children does a body image good. But in my Dance Jam class yesterday, I realized that this influx of young people is actually a good thing. It means that I won’t be the only one who understands how inappropriate and hilarious it is when instead of saying “take two steps forward and two steps back,” the instructor says, “I want two in the front, two in the rear, ladies.” Well, the only one aside from the instructor. I’m pretty sure he knows what he’s saying.
