And the odyssey that was my two night, three day journey from Marrakech to Arusha, Tanzania is now officially over. It started with taking the late train from Marrakech to Casablanca and then an unexpected over-night stay in the Casa train station. My original brilliant plan was to sneak into the hotel by the train station to spend the night in their cushy lobby instead of in the dank, dirty, and kind of scary station. The receptionist at said hotel did not think my original plan was so brilliant. After sleeping on a bench with a delightful homeless lady (Only half serious, Mom…not about you being delightful, homeless lady, fully serious about that), I took the second half of my train ride to the airport and hopped on my plane to Frankfurt. In Frankfurt, I did manage to sneak into the cushy Red Carpet Club for my seven-hour layover using my dad’s membership. This is the first time I’ve ever used the “Do you know who my daddy is?” line…and unless I need directions to the vending machine in a grad school psych building, probably the last. The Red Carpet Club is this magical place where the cappuccinos run like water and the stale pastries are free! After making a meal of After Eights and cocktail olives, I noticed that there was free spread and bread. This place couldn’t get any better…well, maybe if it had karaoke. Anyway, one of the spreads was Philadelphia cream cheese “Krauter” flavor. Obvs I tried it and it was delicious, although I’m still not really sure what Krauter flavor means. Could I have really liked cabbage flavored cream cheese?
Post cream cheese mystery, I took my flight to Tanzania, met my ride with barely a hitch, and am now at the volunteer apartment at the orphanage where I’ll be volunteering for the next few weeks. More to come on that later. The internet connection here is slower than molasses in the wintertime and I’m going to sign off before I throw my computer through my mosquito net.
