I’ve started running again. (Lauren’s wedding, I will be skinny for you, oh yes, I will be.) And running in Tanzania is pretty amazing in terms of motivation available. Not only am I running through gorgeous fields with all kinds of lush greenness, but there are so many people that help me out. Like a lot of times a guy will start running next to me and before I know it, we’ll be sprinting. Well, I’ll be sprinting. He’s probably going at his jogging pace…in flip flops. Or when I run early enough, it’s when the children in town head to school and as I run past them, they’ll all put out their hands and it’ll be like a tunnel of high fives. So much spectator love…the closest thing I’ve ever had to this level of support is when I ran the Army Ten Miler and there was this guy who showed up every few miles holding up a sign that said “Run, Julie, Run. I LOVE YOU!” And I pretended that he was there to support me and I’d wave to him each time I passed. (Fine, his sign was really for someone named Jennifer. Still, I waved and blew him kisses.)
